From sketches to final designs, these 3 fan shirts are amazing!
For the past few months, Prudential and the Trail Blazers teamed up with New Avenues for Youth to help create a platform to provide work experience for youth involved in our INKubator program. Working with Blazer designers, youth were tasked with designing and producing the next great Trail Blazer t-shirt!
Here’s how the program worked:
Phase 1: Blazer fans were asked to help develop a creative brief for a design team consisting of New Avenues for Youth INKubator members and the Trail Blazers’ designers.
Phase 2: The design teams got to work on creating the t-shirt fans gave direction on, and narrowed down their ideas to 3 final designs.
Phase 3: From March 1st – March 15th, fans voted on their favorite shirt by going to http://www.nba.com/blazers/Prudential. Then, our own New Avenues INK printed up the winning design – the “Rose”!
Trail Blazers Noah Vonley and youth designer Curtis
Over a dozen young artists participated in the design workshops, and were thrilled to have Blazer player Noah Vonleh join them and encourage their creativity! Hear from Curtis, one of our youth designers who created the winning “Rose” design, about his experience:
Have you always like to draw/create or was this your first time working on a design project?
I have always had an eye for drawing and admired art but I never really thought I was good at it. Art isn’t really my primary interest at all; I just play basketball – but I’m open to a whole lot of things I haven’t tried.
What was the inspiration for the design you created?
I really don’t know what inspired me or how I thought of my design. I just had objects and pictures of what I thought would be nice on a shirt. Also I like roses and our city so I just thought of putting a rose through the Blazers logo.
Thousands of Blazer fans got to see and take home the shirt you helped create – how does that make you feel?
I feel pretty proud of myself because I never really could think of myself designing anything for anyone. I just hope they like it as much as I do! Maybe this will open other opportunities in my life in the long run – or maybe even sooner than that!
How has New Avenues and this project impacted you?
New Avenues has impacted me in a way that makes me want other people to know about it, because if it helped me open up more, then there’s a chance that other people could be impacted in the same way.
