We’re grateful to our friends from Breakside Brewery, AltBrau & de Garde Brewing, Upright Brewing, and Royale Brewing Co. who created something just for Brews!

  • Breakside – Pause for Effect (BFNA Collaboration) is a blend of five casks of mixed culture sour beers from 9-14 months in age, including several barrel-fermented saisons and a sour golden ale. The blend is aged on over 300 lbs of apricots – that’s more than 1 lb. of fruti per gallon of beer – grown by Trevor Baird of Baird Family Orchards.
  • de Garde/AltBrau – Avenue No. 3 (BFNA Collaboration) is a six-year blend featuring 70% spontaneously fermented Oregon ale from 2016 and 30% Belgian Lambic (a blend of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, & 2015).
  • Royale’s Brews for New Avenues Special Release Baltic Porter was aged in Pinot Noir barrels for 10 months with Brett c and the bottle conditioned with champagne yeast.
  • Upright’s Brews for New Avenues Sole Composition is a blend of aproximately 45% Saison Vert aged in a carbonic Chardonnay cask and 55% Special Herbs.

The General Admission event included more silent auction items and a live auction featuring our rarest lots and large format bottles. Attendees enjoyed artisan food, live music and craft beer from over 50 different local, national and international breweries, and were able to purchase mystery bottles from the famous Wall of Beer featuring over 1,000 bottles of craft beer.

Our annual Brewers Dinner featured International Brewer Pierre Tilquin from Gueuzerie Tilquin, Portland-based Breakside Brewery & Chef Conner Martin at Tournant.

Pierre Tilquin

Fed up with research after earning a degree in bioengineering and a PhD in statistical genetics, Pierre Tilquin turned to an interest that had spawned during his PhD studies – lambic. After an intensive brewing course at Leuven University, Pierre worked for a year at Huyghe Brewery before spending six months each at Drie Fonteinen and Cantillon under the tutelage of Armand Debelder and Jean van Roy, respectively.

The plan for a blender was fomented by these experiences. It had been twelve years since a new gueuze-producer had emerged in Brabant (the previous was Geuzestekerij De Cam in 1997). Pierre then took a job at a bank in order to pay the bills for the newly-created Gueuzerie Tilquin, which started in January 2009, but would not have any product to sell until 2011, which was a blend of 1 and 2-year-old lambics.

In the following seasons, 3-year-old lambics were used in the blends. The Gueuzerie Tilquin is the first gueuze blender in Wallonia and has been growing steadily since its inception and now enjoys a world-renowned reputation for creating top-notch lambic and gueuze.

Our Oyster & Gueuze Social at Park Avenue West featured special bottle pours of exclusive beers from Brasserie Cantillon, an exclusive bottle auction, a selection of draft lambic, and plenty of freshly shucked oysters on the half shell.

The Brews for New Avenues Oyster & Gueuze Social took place on Friday, August 18th at the Park Avenues West Tower, located at 760 SW 9th Avenue.

The Oyster & Gueuze social featured special pours of Cantillon’s new La Vie est Belge and Carignan for $25 per 5 oz pour. A portion of the proceeds from pour sales will benefit non-profit Justine for Kids, whose mission is to support sick and disabled children, their families and pediatric centers in Belgium.
