Transform Lives, Transform Yourself:

Are you eager to be a part of the change and care that supports youth in our community?  Do you have experience that could be an assurance and lift for young people facing houselessness to help them with the skills and resources to lead healthy, independent lives?  New Avenues for Youth seeks a compassionate and resilient Residential Coordinator to join our New Meadows Transitional Housing team.

As a Residential Coordinator at New Meadows, you’ll play a key role in supporting young adults transitioning out of foster care. This youth-facing position focuses on building strong relationships, leading skill-building workshops, and fostering community through engaging activities, as well as helping to maintain a safe residence for youth. You’ll also collaborate with Bridge Meadows community elders to support the program’s goal of helping participants build social capital and meaningful connections. As a consistent and intentional guide, your unique perspective, experience, and resilience will foster opportunity and empower youth to navigate challenges and move toward their goals. Your presence will help create a supportive environment where youth can build on their strengths, grow their skills, and confidently work toward their goals and greater independence.

Our Commitment to Equity:

At New Avenues for Youth, we envision a community where all young people thrive. We recognize that historical inequities and intersecting forms of oppression have created barriers for many. We are unwavering in our commitment to dismantling these barriers and fostering a truly equitable space where every voice is heard and valued.

Who You Are:

Lived Experience-Informed: You may have been in the foster care system, and/or navigated and overcome challenges related to substance use, mental health, and houselessness. Your lived experience is a source of strength that fuels your compassion, empathy, and ability to connect with young people facing similar paths.
Compassionate Listener: You offer empathy without judgment, creating space where young people feel heard, seen, and safe to share their stories.
Reliable Advocate: You show up consistently, follow through on your commitments, and build trust through accountability and care.
Growth-Oriented: You’re committed to your own growth and learning, always seeking out ways to strengthen your skills and better support the youth you work with.
Equity-Driven: You understand how systemic oppression impacts youth and the systems they must navigate. You bring humility, curiosity, and a commitment to equity to your work every day.

What You’ll Do:

·         Be a Mentor and Guide: Build genuine connections with youth by showing up consistently, offering encouragement, and sharing intentional experiences that foster trust, confidence, and belonging.

·         Empower Through Community Building: Collaborate with youth, team, and Bridge Meadows community members to create meaningful opportunities for engagement, skill-building, and connection. Support program development efforts that strengthen social capital and encourage youth to actively shape their community.

·         Support Growth and Learning: Plan and facilitate life skills groups, events, and informal conversations that promote personal development and build a sense of community. Encourage youth to explore their goals, develop new skills, and connect with one another in supportive ways.

·         Ensure a Safe and Comfortable Living Space: Support with move-in and move-out apartment readiness, making youth apartments their homes, providing light maintenance tasks and facilities checks.

·         Document the Journey: Maintain accurate and timely records of youth engagement, activities, and support provided—ensuring the program has the data it needs to grow, improve, and serve young people effectively.
