For the past fifteen years, the Steve Allen Comedy Show has been New Avenues’ signature fundraising event, raising a total of almost $4.5 million in support of our mission to prevent and end youth homelessness.
Founded by long-time board member Joan Allen and her husband Brian Allen, the first event featured Brian’s father – the legendary entertainer and first host of The Tonight Show, Steve Allen. With the generous support of their company Windermere Stellar, Windermere realtors and the Windermere Foundation, the annual Comedy Show has featured incredible talent including Jay Leno, Martin Short, Lily Tomlin, Bob Newhart, Jason Alexander, John Oliver, and Dana Carvey.
This year’s sold out event features late-night great Craig Ferguson. Ferguson is an award-winning performer, New York Times bestselling author and television host. He hosted CBS’s The Late, Late Show for 10 years, earning him a 2006 Emmy nomination and a 2009 Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting, and his third comedy special, I’m Here to Help, premiered on Netflix and garnered a 2014 Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. Having performed to packed theaters across the country, sold out Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall, and earned kudos as host of the White House Correspondents Dinner, New Avenues is honored to have Craig Ferguson headline this year’s Comedy Show.
The Steve Allen Comedy Show will provide critical funds as New Avenues continues to expand prevention and intervention services in the coming year, including growing our social purpose enterprises to increase job opportunities for youth by 50%, and opening a satellite office within the new Boys and Girls Club to offer services to youth in East County.
